Community Service
Help Us Build A Better Arlington!
We're a community within a community. Through our service projects, we've built goodwill and visibility throughout the County and around the region. We are always seeking members to represent our community on various committees or commissions and by volunteering for specific community service projects throughout the year.
Arlingtonians are community-oriented. AGLA members are no exception.
Our work and achievements include:
- 2006 Equality Virignia Equality Community Award
- AGLA representation on the Arlington Equal Opportunity Commission and Human Rights Commission.
- AGLA participation as an Arlington County Public Schools "Partner in Education."
- AGLA representation within the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
- AGLA representation on the Arlington Civic Federation.
- Providing college scholarships to Arlington High School students.
- Donating hundreds of books to Arlington High School and Arlington Public Libraries.
- Hands-on work at area non-profit organizations and assistance centers.
- Participation in Volunteer Arlington Day events.
- Participation in Arlington Neighborhood Day events.
- Donations made to Arlington Food Assistance Center, Arlington Housing Corporation, Arlington Free Clinic Hospice of Northern Virginia, and other area organizations.
- Contributing to local gay and lesbian service organizations.
- Fielding Team AGLA for the D.C. AIDS Ride and AIDS Walk Washington.
For many years, AGLA members have supported the Mautner Project for Lesbians with Cancer. In May 2004, Team AGLA (pictured above) golfed in Mautner's First Annual Tournament, proudly sported AGLA polo shirts and had a lot of fun. Also In 2004, Cheryl Spector and Dave Mallory are Mauther Gala table hosts to make it easy for 20 AGLA members to sit together at our tables on October 2. To find out more, please e-mail
