First Friday Social

April 6, 2018

This social is hosted by the Arlington Gay and Lesbian Alliance (AGLA). When you arrive, you'll be greeted by AGLA Board members.Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of where they live, so invite all you friends. June 28th marks a historic day in the gay community. The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. The demonstrations are frequently cited as the first instance in American history when people fought back against a government-sponsored system that persecuted sexual minorities, and they have become the defining event that marked the start of the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.

This popular social will be open to everyone. If you do make a reservation for dining, please make it in your own name of course, as there will be no specific group table. Call Freddie's ahead to make a dinner reservation, as seating is limited. www.freddiesbeachbar.com.

Join AGLA today and support a wonderful community org. Support this fabulous nonprofit even if you don't live in Arlington, as it serves as a beacon for equality in the DC metro/NoVA area.

As community service, if you can, please bring along travel-sized unused soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. for A-SPAN, which provides life-sustaining services for Arlington's street homeless. Or clean out your cupboard of unused nonperishable food items for AFAC, the community leader in providing and promoting dignified access to nutritious food for all Arlingtonians in need. The social will serve as a convenient collection point.

People from all over the world will be attending. For excitement, look forward to meeting and mingling with members of other local LGBT groups. Let's all celebrate Pride! Allies welcome too of course. Freddie's was voted the Best Virginia Bar by Washington Blade readers. Don't like a smoky bar? You are covered: Freddie's is a smoke-free establishment. (Ashtrays are provided outside the building if smoking is 'your thing').No cover charge. Name tags will be provided. (Oh, remember to bring your ID, as everyone who enters is carded of course! 21 or over.)
