AGLA will be celebrating 35 years of advocacy, education and community service for the LGBTQ community and Allies in Northern Virginia with a reception titled “AGLA – 35 Years of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” on the evening of Friday, November 11th from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Crystal City.
This year we are very pleased to have Mr. Gavin Grimm as our keynote speaker, Mr Grimm a young transgender male student from Gloucester High School has a pending case before the U.S. Supreme Court on bathroom use.
Highlights of the reception include dinner, dancing and presentation of AGLA’s annual Equality Awards. The Equality Awards are given to recognize individuals and organizations that have advanced the cause of LGBTQ issues in the community. At the event, the following will be honored:

AGLA will also be awarding the 2016 AGLA Champion Award to Amanda Simpson.

While much of the basic preparation for this event has been done, we are still in need of your assistance to ensure a successful reception. The planning committee is seeking donations from individuals and/or businesses in the form of goods for the following items:
- Decorations for the Event Space: 40 Chrysanthemums & 120 small/medium size pumpkins
- For the Silent Auction Table: gift cards; gift certificates for restaurants and coffee shops, manicure-pedicures, spas; gift certificates to hotels; wine & spirits for baskets; tickets to sporting events, theatre performances; any other items you may wish to donate.

In addition to entertaining, this event will be educational, providing an overview of AGLA’s past, present, and future. Any monetary contributions to offset our expenses for this event are welcome and very much appreciated. While dinner tickets will be available online soon, you may additionally donate towards the event online if you wish. (Please note in the comments section that it is for the 35th.)
