AGLA proudly serves as a community resource for the men and women in our armed forces. With the Pentagon based in Arlington, AGLA is a wonderful resource for troops who are coming out of the closet as a result of DADT. According to Wikipedia, approximately 28,000 military and civilian employees and about 3,000 non-defense support personnel work in the Pentagon. On September 20, 2011, AGLA celebrated the repeal of DADT with other community groups at a karaoke party at Freddie’s Beach Bar & Restaurant. This received a lot of press coverage.
Veteran’s Day
For many years AGLA observed Veteran’s Day with a public ceremony placing a memorial wreath at the grave site of Sgt. Leonard Matlovich, a pioneer in the effort to allow gays and lesbians to serve opening in the military. Read an informative news story about the service.
