AGLA Brunch AGLA Brunch Once again we will gather monthly on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Freddie has graciously reserved one side of the patio for us. Brunch takes place from 11am to 1pm. When you arrive, simply ask to be directed to the AGLA delegation. AGLA Board members will be glad to introduce you to others. No reservation required. Just arrive when you can. Freddie’s Saturday brunch is quite the deal and very delicious. All you can eat breakfast buffet, including made to order omelettes and Belgian waffles, with coffee, soda or juice for only $9.99. Not a breakfast food person, you can always order off the regular menu. All are welcome to join us regardless of where your reside or whether or not you are an AGLA member. Bring a friend, enjoy the great food and drink, meet new people, and catch up with old friends you have not seen in a while. In addition, as ongoing community service, if you can, please bring along travel-sized unused soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. for A-SPAN (www.a-span.org), which provides life-sustaining services for street homeless. Or clean out your cupboard of unused nonperishable food items for AFAC, the community leader in providing and promoting dignified access to nutritious food for those in need. (http://www.afac.org/) . This event will serve as a convenient collection point. Crystal City Metro is the closest Metro stop. When you arrive and exit the fare card reader, go up the first escalator and enter the glass doors on your left. Walk through the underground shops to 23rd St, turn right and cross Eads and walk about a block up. Freddie’s is on the right. AGLA Scholarship Reception AGLA Scholarship Reception – Special Message from the President: We do hope you can join us for the Tiffany Joslyn Scholarship Reception on May 6th. Each year AGLA awards one outstanding high school senior with a $2,500 scholarship. Recipients are members of their school’s Gay Straight Alliance or whose accomplishments demonstrate significant support for school system policies of diversity, fairness, and safety, as demonstrated in an essay. AGLA founded the scholarship in 2001 during its 20th anniversary year. By providing some of the resources necessary to attend college, AGLA has helped numerous students with a demonstrated commitment to equality. To ensure that AGLA is able to continue our commitment of providing scholarships for worthy seniors, AGLA will hold a reception on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 11:00 a.m.-1 p.m. at the home of Mr Jeffrey Liteman 1 South Lexington Street, Arlington, VA, 22204, near Route 50 and Carlin Springs. Many community leaders will be attending. Host Committee Levels Host Committee Perks: Each host committee member receives 2 tickets at the sign in table. The AGLA Scholarship is one of the demonstrable elements of AGLA’s commitment to our community and an opportunity to lend our support to the youth. AGLA has a strong track record of being committed to advancing safe schools policies and ensuring that we have safe schools for ALL our children. Sincerely, Bruce W Hightower
